Overall sales of the toy and games market have been boosted with the launch of eight new gaming consoles in November 2013, Play Station 4 and Xbox One being the most famous.
The success of traditional toys and games is primarily driven by licensing, and particularly by the success of licensed Lego Toys and Disney’s Frozen. Lego Toys generated a huge increase in sales for the company as a result of the Lego Movie from 2014. The movie had huge influence on both children and adults in raising the interest for developing building skills and thus increasing the demand for Lego toys.
Despite the difficult trading conditions which resulted from internal and external competition in the past five years, the industry is expected to keep generating good results in profits. By the end of 2015, the industry’s revenue is expected to annualise by 2.4% due to annual fluctuations of several variables that influence sales figures among which: household discretionary income, consumer sentiment and the relative share of Australian population under 14 years old.
